1) Summary

Talking Diary is designed to be privacy-forward:

No accounts, no login.
Your audio recordings and journal data are stored locally on your device.
The App does not use analytics SDKs or crash-reporting SDKs.
Data leaves your device only for (1) AI analysis and (2) AI chat, and only the data described below is transmitted.

2) Data Stored On Your Device

Talking Diary stores the following locally:

Voice recordings (audio) saved in the App’s Documents folder.
Transcript text stored in a local SQLite database.
AI outputs (summary, mood, themes, values, action items, reflection prompts) stored locally after generation.
Chat messages (for “Talk to Me”) stored locally and linked to the entry.
Preferences such as your name (optional), diary name/personality (optional), theme, onboarding flag stored via device preferences.

3) Data We Do NOT Collect

The App does not collect:

device identifiers (no IDFA/IDFV),
location, contacts, advertising identifiers,
usage analytics or crash reports (no analytics SDK).
No accounts exist (no emails/passwords required for use).

4) When Data Leaves Your Device (AI Features)

Data leaves your device in exactly two cases:

A) AI analysis after recording

After you finish a recording, the App sends the transcript text to the OpenRouter API, which routes to Anthropic Claude 3.5 Haiku to generate the structured analysis.
The transcript is the only user data sent for analysis (no device ID, no location, no past entries).

B) “Talk to Me” chat (Pro)

During an active chat session, the App sends the entry’s transcript and selected context (such as summary/mood/themes) plus the current chat history for that session to OpenRouter to generate a reply.

5) Transcription (Apple / OS Speech Services)

Transcription is performed using the iOS speech recognition framework (SFSpeechRecognizer).
Apple’s privacy policy governs how the OS handles speech recognition processing; we do not control or have visibility into Apple’s processing.

6) Subscriptions and Payments (RevenueCat + App Store)

Subscriptions are processed by Apple/Google. RevenueCat is used to validate subscription status using the device’s store receipt; no journal content is sent to RevenueCat.

Current subscription options are $2.99/month or $29.99/year (regional pricing and taxes may apply).

7) Notifications

If you set action-item reminders, the App schedules local notifications on your device. Permission is requested only when you set a reminder. There is no push notification server.

8) Exporting

Pro users may export an entry via the device share sheet, which can include the transcript and AI outputs. Sharing is performed by the OS to destinations you choose.

9) Retention and Deletion

You can delete individual entries (including audio + associated records), and clear all data from Settings.
There is no server-side diary account content to delete because your entries are stored on-device.
Uninstalling the App removes the local database, audio files, and local preferences.

10) Security

Your privacy depends heavily on device security. We recommend using a device passcode/Face ID and keeping your OS updated. Network calls to AI services are made over HTTPS.

11) Children’s Privacy

The App is intended for users 17+ (per your spec) and is not designed for children. No age verification is performed.

12) Your Rights / Requests

Because your journal content is stored locally and not in a user account on our servers, we generally cannot retrieve or delete your on-device entries for you.
If you email support, we may retain support correspondence and can delete it on request.

13) Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the Effective Date and make the updated policy available in the App and/or store listing.
